Activities during 2015-16


Ø The society started its journey for the academic year July 2015-16 by hosting a freshers’ welcome party for the first year Commerce students on 22nd August, 2015 in the college premises.                
The fresher’s party was an amalgamation of fun as well as an opportunity to the new batch of students to interact with their seniors and also to know their peers. Senior students gave a very warm welcome to their juniors with much enthusiasm and zeal. The function commenced with the lighting of lamp to invoke the blessings of Godess of  Knowledge , Mother Saraswati. Our esteemed principal, Dr. R.K. Gupta blessed the students with his motivating speech. It was followed by informal introductory sessions, cultural events performed by second and final year students and events as Mr. and Miss Fresher.  All first year commerce students actively participated and enjoyed the function thoroughly.
Ø   The Commerce society, in association with New Delhi Institute of Management organized a talk on “ HOW TO CRACK PERSONAL INTERVIEW / GROUP DISCUSSION EFFECTIVELY” by an eminent speaker, Professor  Swapan  Das Gupta on  13th  October, 2015 at the seminar room. The objective of this workshop was to give important tips to the students to crack their job interviews  successfully. It was an informative and interesting session for the students.
Ø An Industrial visit was organized by the Commerce society for the final year commerce students to Parle-G plant in Bahadurgarh on 12th Feb, 2016.  
Ø  57 Students of  B.Com III Year were accompanied by 14 faculty members of the Commerce Department. They gained an insight into various  management aspects of  Parle Industries like working of the plant, manufacturing process, recruitment activities, quality maintenance process, marketing strategies and supply chain and logistics management of the company. The students enthusiastically asked various questions which were very well replied by the HR executive of the company. It has been a quite knowledgeable and memorable visit for our students.
Ø The Department of Commerce organised a seminar for the final year students on the topic " Financial Planning for Young Investors" on 10 Feb 2016. The seminar was presented by Prof. (Dr.) Mukul Jain, Resource person from SEBI. He discussed about various sources available for investment in the market, their importance, merit-demerits of different sources and other aspects of investment. He also presented the students with various facts and figures of a sound investment. The seminar was interesting and informative.
Ø  The Commerce department  organized a seminar on the “Union Budget 2016-17” on 3rdMarch, 2016 at the seminar room. Our honorable principal Dr. R. K.Gupta formally welcomed the guests. Two eminent speakers  were  invited to share their views on the budget We had the honour of  having  Dr, Jagannathan who had been a faculty member  in the  commerce department and also had served as the principal of  Dyal Singh college to discuss how the Union Budget would lay path for the policy initiatives by the Central Government to push growth and development of the Indian economy. Another speaker , Dr. Ramji Narayan who had been the principal of our college also came to talk about the effects of the budget on our economy. Both of them analysed the budget provisions to explain whether the road maps under the budget are likely to fulfill the promises. The rising fiscal deficits and the  increase made in various taxes  were the main areas of concern. They also talked about the effects of budget on stock markets & investments in the economy. The seminar was very fruitful &  knowledge enhancing for the students as well as the faculty  members. 

Commerce Fest 2016
Ø  Commerce festival  was  organized by the Commerce department on 12thMarch 2016. There were three big events organized namely“The next big thing" “Adoholic” and the “Quiz.”
      The welcome address to all the students & faculty was delivered by our esteemed principal Dr. R. K. Gupta. The first event was all about start up ideas in which students participated & shared various ideas on startups like food chains throughout India, Laptops at very low prices etc.
The second event was Ad- mad in which a total of 6 teams participated and  enacted on various products . And the last event was quiz in which pre-lims were  conducted and 8 teams were selected. It was quite entertaining and fruitful for the students. Teachers were also actively involved in this. Finally the awards & trophies were distributed to the winners by our principal sir.

Fresher’s Party
Ø  The Department of Commerce organized a fresher’s welcome party for the first batch of commerce four year undergraduate programme (FYUP) on 3rd October, 2013. The function commenced with the lighting of lamp. Our esteemed ex-principal, Prof. Rajesh Kumar blessed the students with his motivating speech. It was followed by cultural events performed by second and final year students. All first year commerce students actively participated and enjoyed the function thoroughly.
Ø The Department of Commerce, in association with Jaipuria Institute of Management, one of the most esteemed institutions in the field of management organized a seminar on Placement and Post-Graduation Courses on 29th October, 2013 at new Computer lab. It was an informative and interesting session for the students. The students interacted with the guest faculty to clarify their queries regarding various career options in the field of management.
Ø An industrial visit was organized by the Department of Commerce for the final year students of B.Com and B.Com (H) to Yakult (a probiotic health drink company), Sonepat on the 26th of March, 2014. The students went there along with nine faculty members. They gained an insight into various aspects of management such as production, sales, marketing and human resource management techniques employed by the company. Our students immensely benefited from the learning experience which corroborates with classroom teaching. The students thoroughly enjoyed the trip. It was a very enriching and invigorating experience for the students.
Ø The Department of Commerce in association with Career Counseling Committee conducted a Career Counseling Session for the final year students at new computer lab. The objective of this workshop was to provide a platform for the students to interact with eminent career counselors so that they are aware about the changes taking place in the dynamic world and can make a well informed choice. In this workshop, eminent expert form IMD Ghaziabad enlightened the students about the new courses which are being offered to them to keep pace with the changing business environment.

Ø The Department of Commerce organized a farewell ceremony for its final year students on 15th April, 2014 on college ground. The function started with lighting of the ceremonial lamp by our esteemed principal, Prof. Pushraj Jain. A short cultural program was put up by the students of first and second year. Through their fantabulous performances, they not only entertained their seniors but also withed them good luck for their future. The meritorious students were acknowledged for their academic achievements. They were presented with cash rewards and certificate of appreciation. Each student was also presented with a memento. The highlight of the day was the ten-minute long movie shown capturing the memorable moments of final year students spent at the college.    

The Commerce Society of the college organized an industrial visit to Parle-G plant in Bahadurgarh on 12th Feb, 2016. Parl-G is an Indian private ltd. Company, founded by Sh. Mohanlal Dayalji form Surat. 57 Students of B.Com III Year were accompanied by 14 faculty members of the Commerce Department.

The students were asked to report in the college premises at 8:00 am and 2 buses were arranged for the same. We left around 9:00am & reached the plant at around 11:00am. As soon as we reached, we were directed towards there auditorium in the factory premises where an animated video about their history of the company & its products was presented. All the students were mesmerized by the presentation as it took us bulk to our childhood days.
After the presentation, the students were taken around the manufacturing plant & were explained about their production & packaging process of the company. The operations were totally automated & intemationally designed, keeping in mind the hygiene standards.
After witnessing the actual production of the products, we were again directed towards their auditorium where Ms. Pallavi, their H.R. executive of the company, explained about the working of the plant & gave an insightful presentation on their strategies, particularly their marketing strategies of their company. The students enthusiastically asked various questions which were very well replied by the HR executive. After the presentation we thanked her for their presentation and their visit as well.
The students were their distributed various Parle-G products as souvenir by the officials of the company.
Overall, it was a very interactive and learning experience for the students as it enhanced their knowledge about the actual operations & processes of a manufacturing unit.


Industrial Visit to Mother Dairy
Students of commerce department were taken for an industrial visit to Mother Dairy-Delhi on April 16, 2012. Mr. Ramesh Kumar, Assistant Prof. organized the visit with help of Prof. O.L. Meena department of Hindi in groups and accompanied them. Prof. R.K. Gupta, Prof. Anita Bajaj, Prof. Jay Shankar Sharma, Prof. Mukesh Kumar and Prof. Pannalal department of commerce were also taken visit to Mother Diary.

On arrival, Mr. Verma, Senior Officer, Consumer information, gave students and faculty a hearty welcome. The students were led to the Conference Room where they were briefed on the Milk Industry – how it operates in India and abroad. Mother Dairy officials explained the profile, aims, objectives and the philosophy of operations of Mother Dairy. Mother Dairy-Delhi was set up in 1974 under the Operation Flood Programme. It is a wholly owned unit of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). Mother Dairy markets and sells various milk products and other food items at national level like Liquid Milk, Curd, Butter, Lassi, Flavoured Milk, Ice-Cream, Dhara range of edible Oils and Safal range of fresh fruits, vegetables, frozen vegetables and fruit juices.

To give an idea about the level of operation of Mother Dairy, it was explained that they market around 2.8 million liters of milk in Delhi and NCR and parts of Mumbai, Saurashtra and Hyderabad. Its market share in Delhi is 66% where it sells 2.3 million litres of milk daily through around 14,000 retail outlets and 845 exclusive outlets of Mother diary.

Thereafter, a power point presentation was organized for the students which highlighted how milk is procured form rural areas, hygiene maintainenance at the point of milking the animal, benefits to the farmers, the stages through which milk is processed-clarification, standardization, homogenization and pasteurization, benefits of milk and milk products, ice-cream manufacturing process etc.

After the presentation, the students had a detailed interactive session wherein they were given a detailed explanation about the Marketing Strategies, Distribution Strategizes and the Channels used and HR practices followed. Students’ and faculty queries were also answered. During the visit of the plant, the students were first taken to the unit where the milk is processed in four stages of clarification, standardization, homogenization and pasteurization. The raw milk and processed milk is stored in different silos each having storage capacity of 1 lakh liters of milk. Students were also given demonstration of various machines and testing facilities at the processing plant. An important learning experience for the students was demonstration of how milk is adulterated and how adulteration is detected. This is absolutely necessary to maintain the standard and safety of the product consumed by the children, old and everyone on faith of purity.

The students had a taste of the milk and ice-cream at the end of the visit. The students found the visit very informative about a vital product of daily consumption.
